I was driving along one of the big roads in the big city out west the other day. This is not unusual. Actually, this is something I do every day. I do work with driving and I do work in the city, so it’s reasonable.
Anyways, I was driving and I stopped to have a sandwich. Once I was getting back into the car, a man came up to me. This is not unusual either, in this city. “Sorry, I’m looking for storage in Los Angeles” he said. I started saying “Not interested” but then I thought about what he was actually saying. He was looking for storage in Los Angeles. Who was this guy? Why was he looking for storage in Los Angeles? Was he new here? What brought him here? Interesting questions arose.
I asked him why he was looking for storage in Los Angeles. I noticed that he looked incredibly stressed. He explained. Apparently, his whole family had moved out west from Detroit. They were seeking happiness in the west, just as people have done throughout this country’s history. The thing was that they had gotten a house, they thought. Only, the house wasn’t there. They had been tricked while coming to Los Angeles and now they were in desperate need of storage.
I listened and then asked him why he asked me. Why me out of all people on Sunset? He just said it was a stab in the dark. He was in desperate need of storage in Los Angeles to store the stuff. Who better to ask than a Taxi driver? I told him that it’s a stretch to believe that my occupation would be better than another. But to be honest, his stab in the dark hit right. I happen to know a person that owns a big storage place in Los Angeles. I told him that I was making a call quick, I turned around and walked a bit. They had free space, and he could also give me discount on the storage in Los Angeles. I hung up, turned around to my new friend and told him about the news.
I have never seen anyone so relieved in my whole life. I guess that they just need to find a place to stay now. Fingers crossed!
